Children's dental care
Children’s visits are adapted to age, comfort, development and dental needs, with parents and caregivers involved along the way.
Getting started
Positive introductory visits from around age 2 focus on comfort and familiarity. What happens that day depends on your child — we do not guarantee an exam, cleaning, X-rays, fluoride or treatment at every first visit.
Help your child become comfortable with the clinic, team and dental chair at an appropriate pace.
We talk with you about your child’s dental history, concerns and what you hope to accomplish today.
Visits are paced to your child — not every first visit includes the same steps.
Depending on comfort and needs, we may look at the teeth and gums and discuss what makes sense next.
We review findings and plan follow-up care that fits your child’s age and oral health.

As they grow
Needs change from early childhood through the teen years. Care stays individualized rather than tied to a fixed age protocol.
Introductory visits, comfort-building and early habits that support growing smiles.
Ongoing prevention, hygiene guidance and care as primary teeth and development continue to change.
Support through changing oral-health needs, including conversations about orthodontics or sports mouthguards when relevant.
When alignment or sports protection becomes relevant, explore orthodontics or sports mouthguards.
Prevention
Prevention and home-care guidance support growing smiles. Recommendations depend on your child’s needs — not a single checklist for every visit.
Age-appropriate guidance for brushing, cleaning between teeth and building helpful routines. Dental hygiene & teeth cleaning
Checking how teeth and gums are developing and discussing concerns as they arise.
Additional preventive options may be discussed when appropriate for your child, based on individual needs and current clinic protocols — not as a routine or automatic step.
When concerns arise
If a concern is identified, we discuss appropriate next steps. Not every procedure is always completed in-house, and specialized care may be referred when appropriate.
When decay is found, we discuss restorative options suited to your child’s needs.
Concerns about chips, sensitivity or discomfort can be assessed and discussed.
Primary-tooth issues may be managed in a family practice setting when appropriate.
For toothache, swelling or dental injury, call for emergency dental care rather than waiting for a routine visit. Emergency dental care
Comfort
We aim for positive experiences without promising fear-free, tear-free or pain-free visits.
We explain what is happening in simple, calm language when that helps.
Positive early visits can help children feel more at ease with future appointments.
Your input about what helps your child matters — share preferences and concerns when booking or visiting.
Where possible, we adapt the visit pace to your child’s comfort that day.
Referrals
Many routine children’s dental needs can be managed in a general and family practice. Some situations may benefit from pediatric specialist care — and when that is the better fit, our team can discuss referral options.

First visits are individualized. They may include familiarization, caregiver discussion, allowing your child to settle at an appropriate pace, assessing what is suitable that day, and discussing next steps. Exam, cleaning, X-rays, fluoride or treatment are not guaranteed at every first visit.
No. Uxbridge Dental Care is a general and family dental practice, not a specialist pediatric dental clinic. When specialized care is appropriate, referral can be discussed.
