What happens during a dental hygiene appointment?

A dentist exam or imaging is included only when clinically appropriate or already scheduled.
How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

Is a dental cleaning the same as a dental exam?

Do I need X-rays at every hygiene appointment?
Not necessarily. Diagnostic imaging is recommended only where clinically appropriate. Existing records and the reason for your visit may affect whether new X-rays are needed.
What is plaque or tartar buildup?
Plaque is a soft biofilm that forms on teeth. When it hardens, it becomes calculus (tartar), which professional cleaning can remove more effectively than home care alone.
Can a dental hygienist help if my gums bleed?
Bleeding when brushing or flossing is a common reason people book a hygiene visit. Your hygienist can assess your gums and discuss appropriate hygiene care and home-care support. This does not diagnose a specific gum condition on its own.
What if I haven't had my teeth cleaned in a long time?
